Krakow has also garnered quite a reputation as a party capital and for good reason! Clubs, bars and pubs of every variety keep the fun going throughout the night so whether you prefer a tall pint of Poland’s best beers or a chilled shot of vodka to keep the fun coming, you’ll be happy here. Those looking to go a little deeper are well-advised to visit the Auschwitz – Birkenau Museum for an emotionally-stirring trip through a haunting moment in history. Alternatively, literally go deeper with a tour of the city’s magical salt mines. Explore a breath-taking 3.5km network of tunnels running beneath Krakow and feel like you’ve entered another world as you happen upon underground chapels, lakes and complex devices. Whatever you decide to do, this unique city will surely leave a lasting impression.
For the second leg of your brilliant break, you’ll head to beautiful Berlin - a hotbed of profound events over the last century and it can be seen in every building, street and gallery. The mighty Brandenburg Gate is one of Berlin’s most well-known structures, having stood since 1791 and passing through WWII with only a few blemishes. For those interested in the War, the Holocaust Memorial and the Soviet Memorial at Treptower Park offer poignant sights that are sure to stick with you long after. For a more colourful slice of history (literally), check out the East Side Gallery and its provocative political artworks. Not all of Berlin’s draws are found in the past; the city is legendary for offering some of the best nightlife in the world. With a sprawling club scene that encompasses the breadth of the city, if you like life loud then you’ll find plenty of places that keep the music going till the early morning. The Watergate represents the classic techno sounds of Berlin, whilst SO36 is home to rock and indie. For something mellower, A Trane offers small, intimate jazz performances. Whatever takes your fancy, Berlin has it!
