Why do some traps turn black?

Spring & Summer care

• Water from below by placing the pot in a saucer filled with 2.5cm (1in) of rainwater.
• Never fertilise - Venus Flytraps catch all the food they need on their own.
• For an extra boost, leave the plant outside for a few days in summer to hunt naturally.
• Cut off any flower stalks to keep the plant strong and ensure larger traps.

Autumn & Winter care

• Expect some leaves to die back as the plant enters winter dormancy - this is normal!
• Reduce watering and only keep the soil slightly damp by letting the tray dry before refilling with 1cm of rainwater.
• Trim dead foliage to keep the plant tidy.
• Move indoors to an unheated greenhouse, porch, or cool room for its winter rest.
• Plants are hardy down to 0°C and will start growing again in late February.
• Once growth resumes, place on a sunny windowsill and stand in a tray of rainwater again.
